The choir has a core membership of around 45. We stipulate a minimum age of 15 years for new members but there is no maximum age limit! Whiie we are a non-auditioned choir, we perform at a high level without music so musical experience is helpful but not assumed.
REHEARSALS
Rehearsals are held from 7:30pm-9:30pm on Monday nights at the Church Hall at the rear of St John the Baptist Church, 61 Queens Parade, Clifton Hill 3068. Parking is available in Queens Parade and surrounding streets and entry to the hall is via the gate in Hodgkinson St. Choir members are encouraged to attend rehearsals regularly in order to benefit from the technical instruction given by our Musical Director and to keep abreast of the repertoire learnt throughout the year. In the lead up to major performances, members are strongly encouraged to attend all rehearsals, including additional sessions, and to make use of mp3 recordings and other resources provided.
MUSIC
The KeyTones use original sheet music, which is distributed to all members by the Music Library Manager. Purchase costs are met by a combination of member fees and annual fundraising activities. We are compliant with copyright laws and unauthorised copies are not permitted.
Members are allocated a folder and sheet music at the commencement of the year. Music from the previous year is to be collected and returned to the Library. Any members leaving the choir before the end of the year are requested to return all folders and music to the choir.
FEES
Members are charged a fee of $380 a year up front ($350 fees plus $30 for music) or $95 per term ($410 in total) and for those on a healthcare/student concession card the fee is $260 a year up front or $65 per term ($290 in total). The fees cover the cost of hiring a professional Musical Director and Accompanist. We also charge an annual music archive fee of $30 for the provision of sheet music and folders. As outlined above, there is a discount for those wishing to pay the annual fee upfront and alternative payment arrangements are also available on request.
