The choir has a core membership of around 45 people. We stipulate a minimum age of 15 years for new members but there is no maximum age limit! While we are a non-auditioned choir, we perform at a high level often without sheet music, so musical experience is helpful but not assumed.
REHEARSALS
Rehearsals are held 7:30pm-9:30pm on Monday nights in Clifton Hill. Choir members are encouraged to attend rehearsals regularly in order to benefit from the technical instruction given by our Musical Director and to keep abreast of the repertoire learnt throughout the year. In the lead up to major performances, members are strongly encouraged to attend all rehearsals, including additional sessions, and to make use of recordings and other resources provided.
MUSIC
The Keytones use original sheet music, which is distributed to all members by the Music Library Manager. Purchase costs are met by a combination of member fees and annual fundraising activities. We are compliant with copyright laws and unauthorised copies are not permitted.
Members are allocated a folder and sheet music at the commencement of the year. Music from the previous year is to be collected and returned to the Library. Any members leaving the choir before the end of the year are requested to return all folders and music to the choir.
FEES
As of 2026, fees will increase to $450 a year ($420 fees plus $30 for music) and for those on a healthcare/student concession card the fee is $330 a year. The fees cover the cost of hiring a professional Musical Director and Accompanist. We also charge an annual music archive fee of $30 for the provision of sheet music and folders. Alternative payment arrangements are also available if choristers wish to pay per term.
Please email our Treasurer Kate Wilson if you would like to make alternative payment arrangements or have an questions: [email protected]
